Employers who show they care have an advantage

Our latest study of over 14,000 employees across the globe, and over 1,000 in Canada, looked at how employers can impact positively on the health of their people. Do you know which benefits matter most to your employees now? Do you know how to best support them in this challenging environment?

Greater demand for benefits that meet real employee needs is driving a shift towards digital well-being and self-care.

The benefits employees want now

Five key trends were identified as being the most important to delivering the benefits employees now want:

Supporting the moments that matter through comprehensive benefits enabled nearly a quarter of employees to view their pandemic experience as positive, compared to just 8% of those with no benefits. This supports the role of benefits for boosting the resilience of employees.

Providing varied and valued benefits made those employees with access to the most varied health and well-being resources 37 percentage points less likely to move elsewhere, 26 points more confident they can get the healthcare they need and 9 points more energized.

Enabling digital access to healthcare will be valued by the eight out of ten employees who want to use digital health solutions, such as video-chats with their doctor and well-being apps that help them find healthcare support and self-manage conditions.

Investing in mental health is seen as extremely or very important by one in two employees (49%). Twenty-two percent of employees say they are less healthy, physically fit and financially worse off than before the pandemic and 27% say they feel more isolated and lonelier.

Delivering benefits equitably will be essential to eliminating disparities, such as lower-earners who are less able to access benefits. Overall, 21% of employees report they are not confident they can afford the healthcare they need.
