Chief Counsel, Mercer Canada
Don Webster is the Chief Counsel for Mercer Canada, having been appointed as Mercer’s first legal counsel in Canada in 2006. As Chief Counsel, Don manages a small team that handles Mercer’s internal legal and risk matters. Don has a particular interest in corporate strategy and risk, new product development, international business, innovation, emerging technologies and employment/culture issues, and how they are impacted by applicable law. While in his role, Don has completed international assignments in Singapore and London.
Don started his career at Mercer in 2001 as a Principal and Senior Consultant in its Canadian Law & Tax Practice, providing legal and tax consulting services to many of Mercer’s largest clients, with a focus on pensions, benefits and executive compensation. Prior to joining Mercer, Don was Associate Director, Legal Services at Hatch, with global responsibility for its Hatch Mott MacDonald unit; an Associate Lawyer in the Corporate and Pensions law teams at Border Ladner Gervais; and a Manager, Tax in the Pension Services Group at Price Waterhouse.
Don graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry and an M.Sc. in Pharmacology & Toxicology. He then studied the LL.B./MBA Joint Program at York University, receiving an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School, with a focus on Corporate Law, and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, with a major in Finance.
